7 Health Benefits of Plants in Your Home

January 9, 2022

We love to see live, green plants adorning any and all rooms. They bring life to a home and instantly make any room more comfortable. Although we see more and more boho-styled homes overflowing with green beauties, plants truly fit the vibe of any home’s decor. Elevating your home with indoor plants is more than just an aesthetic choice – it’s a wholesome expression of decor that resonates with the essence of a healthy and vibrant living space.

Make You Happier

Indoor plants can literally make you happier. Studies have shown house plants can greatly decrease stress and anxiety levels by having a calming effect on a person’s blood pressure and heart rate. For this reason, having houseplants is known to be very therapeutic. In fact, plant therapy has been recommended for individuals suffering from depression and anxiety as a way to alleviate some symptoms. I think it’s safe to say the additional reasons on this list will increase your happiness as well!

Make You Smarter

Indoor plants can improve how you think — they make you smarter and improve your memory retention by up to 20%. . Indoor plants can help sharpen your attention for longer periods of time, and these days it’s pretty hard at times to keep your focus. We’re used to instant everything — if a webpage doesn’t load fast enough we X out. If a movie or TV show gets slow for a moment, we pick up our phones. Our attention spans are getting shorter and shorter, and simply having houseplants around you can help.

Help You Recover From Illness

Indoor plants have been known to boost the healing process and pain tolerance which can help individuals recover from illness faster. In fact, studies have shown that patients after surgery with indoor plants in their recovery room tolerated pain better and needed fewer medications.

Help You Feel Better

Indoor plants can help alleviate your day-to-day body and mental fatigue. Sitting at a desk (or couch — after all, we’re all working more from home these days) all day can take a toll on your physical and mental well-being. Indoor plants can help increase humidity in the air which decreases your chances of experiencing colds and flu-like symptoms (i.e. headaches, coughs, and sore throats). For an increase in humidity check out the Areca Palm, Bamboo, Rubber Plant, English Ivy, and Spider Plant — just to list a few!

Help You Feel Accomplished

Indoor plants can help you feel more accomplished with your work by boosting productivity and creativity. In fact, studies show the color green facilitates creativity, and when someone looks at the color green for just two seconds they have a greater creative output. Plants can increase your levels of positive energy, making you feel secure and less stressed with your work.

Make Your Allergies Better

Indoor plants can help alleviate your allergies by reducing indoor dust by up to 20%. With less sneezing and watery eyes, your home’s air quality is cleaned and purified, making indoor plants a best friend to those who suffer from daily allergies. Check out The Dracaena which is said to be the best at pulling allergens out of the air and trapping them in its leaves.

Help You Breathe Better

Paints and household cleaners can add harmful pollutants to your home’s air. Indoor plants release oxygen into the air and eliminate 87% of poisonous elements found in your home’s air quality. A few great options for purifying the air are Aloe Vera, Peace Lilly, Snake Plant, Spider Plant, Bamboo, Fern, and Ficus — just to name a few!

“All fame cost her was everything.” 🎸✨💋
Darkening Song by Delphine Seddon was such a fun read. When I saw it being placed in the same space as #daisyjonesandthesix I immediately requested this ARC. Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress — I can’t wait for the adaptation!

Daisy Jones & The Six — one of my favorite book adaptations ever. 📚 More books need to be made into a limited TV series rather than crammed into a movie. #daisyjonesandthesix #bookadaptation #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookflatlay
