Thrifty Lit: Harry Potter Deathly Hallows & Goblet of Fire
Although browsing thrift store bookshelves is something I enjoy doing every now and then, I’ve found myself frequenting them ever so often since starting my Outlander series adventure.
And what has that given me? Even more thrifted books for my shelves! Today has started a new hardback series hunt for me — Harry Potter. More specifically I have found Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Both in hardback, both in pretty good condition, and both for just one dollar each.

The covers on both have a ton of wear on them — so, does this mean I should end this journey with new book jackets, just like my Outlander series? It really felt like the shelves were whispering, “Why stop at one series?” And just like that, a new thrift store mission began.
Seeing their worn covers and imagining all the hands that held them before mine only added to their magic and charm.
These books aren’t just staples to any ‘ol book collection; they’re cultural icons—stories that shaped my generation, and so many more. I literally had a field trip in middle school to the movie theater to see the first movie when it premiered. It was a big deal.
Finding The Deathly Hallows and The Goblet of Fire feels like a solid start, but there’s something daunting about beginning the hunt for such an iconic series. With seven books to find, I know this will take time (and quite a few trips to thrift stores).
For now, these two books have found their place on my shelf, sparking the beginning of what I hope will be a complete thrifted Harry Potter collection.
