When my son was first born, bathing him was what I was most timid about. There is something super terrifying about a soaking wet, slippery newborn. I felt like I was going to drop or break him with every move I made. Not to mention the millions of questions that flew into my mind before and during bathtime:
Sink or bathtub? Which soap products? Is this rag too rough? Is the water too warm or too cold?
It can be intimidating trying to decide on baby bath essentials; there are just so many! Whether you have a baby that completely despises bath time or you were blessed with a little one that loves it, these bath time essentials are perfect for all babies.
Bathtime Tips
Establish a routine: Whether you are bathing baby in the morning or evening, try to stay consistent. Babies thrive on routines! Always keep in mind it is best to bathe your baby when he or she is not hungry or fussy. You want your baby to like the bathtime routine! Also, remember at this point in life baby only needs 2-3 baths a week until they are older!
Keep It Warm: No, not just the water — but the room you decide to give your baby a bath in (bathroom, kitchen, ect.) I like to use a small space heater in my bathroom and I even used it in my kitchen when my son was a newborn and bathed in the kitchen sink. Turn on the heater in advance so the room is already toasty when its time for a bath.
Have Supplies Ready: Before the bath begins, have everything you will need right by the tub (or sink) so you never have to leave your baby alone, even for a second. This includes body soap, shampoo, washcloth, towel, blanket, lotion, fresh diaper, and new clothes.
The Best Bath Essentials for Babies
Bath Tub
Why we love it: This is a “whale of a tub” and comes with a removable padded infant seat insert, which can eventually be removed for the toddler stage (and removed for super easy clean-up!). This tub has worked perfectly for my son since he was one month old — prior to using the tub we used the kitchen sink.

Safety Duck
Why we love it: I use this duck during every bath: from the start to finish. I first use it to fill the bathtub and use it every time I fill the pourer with clean water to rinse off my baby. It lets you know if the water is too hot for your baby. It’s so simple but so helpful.
Body Wash, Shampoo, + Lotion
Chose a wash, shampoo, and lotion that works best for you and your baby! Whether it be an all-natural, sensitive skin, or fragrance-free option– what’s best for you may not be best for everyone else!
Lately, we are totally in love with the Hello Bello collection, a plant-based line of baby products! Unless you are looking for fragrance-free, I would check out the Vanilla Apricot scent — it is heavenly! And the Lavender is great for our nighttime baths.
