How To Easily Paint French Doors
After completing my kitchen makeover (cabinets, counters, pantry door) I did something super impulsive. I thought to myself: I’ve already painted over everything else in my kitchen, how about one more thing? I looked at my beautiful, white French doors in my kitchen and thought: why not!
I hurried over to the doors and before I could change my own mind I started slathering on my favorite milk paint in a deep grey that I had just finished painting on my bottom cabinets.
Then this frightening thought entered my brain: “do I need to tape off ALL the window panes?
The answer: NO! Absolutely not. An immense sigh of relief.
You can swipe paint on the windows and remove the paint so much faster than you could by taping each individual little window pane. I promise. How? Vinegar! I always have vinegar on hand, it has seriously become a staple to my everyday life, so I wasn’t surprised to learn it could help me with painting, too.
How to remove the paint
Paint your French doors like you would paint any door — just try to ignore the fact that there are so many little windows.
What I mean by that is you can get paint on the windows — YES, just do it! I promise it will be less of a stress on you to easily remove some paint from the windows than to tape each and every little window.
Once the paint is dry (all coats necessary — I did two coats) you can spray each window down with a vinegar and water mix. I recommend using ¼ water and ¾ vinegar in a spray bottle. Then use a small blade to glide the paint off the windows. The paint should slide right off like butter-– it’s just so easy!
Finally, use a paper towel to collect and wipe up any excess paint scraps left behind on the window panes. Now you are done!
I absolutely love my dark grey French doors and the added character that it was previously lacking. The former white walls and white doors created a washed-out look. The dark paint now adds a charming and sophisticated pop of color. And I couldn’t be happier.
