Today we are exploring some of our favorite IKEA hacks you can quickly implement this summer to help add character and style to your patio without breaking the bank. What we love the most about these IKEA patio hacks is that most of the furniture or items are repurposed. Minor purchases, such as paint or sandpaper were the only reason for spending money. However, we love IKEA for the affordable price tag, so should you want to go out and buy something brand new only to transform it we LOVE to see it. We have 100% done exactly that — multiple times.
All of our creators below have incredibly helpful tutorials that will allow you to easily transform your patio into the cozy outdoor space you’ve been dreaming about all winter long. Happy DIY-ing!
By Nicole Robin transformed the worn reddish stain of her APPLARO IKEA patio set into a fresh whitewashed paint that added new life to the furniture. With a well-detailed tutorial, you can easily do this DIY project yourself. Nicole says “the pale wood tone completely transformed and modernized the set. It looks far more rich and resort chic” — and we couldn’t agree more with her.
Created with IKEA’s floor decking, this stunning patio floor was designed and assembled by Jess of Style By Emily Henderson. Painted with alternating cream and blue paint, Jess says this DIY project was a lot of work but totally worth it. Her best piece of advice if you’re going to paint them is, “I donβt recommend it for high-traffic areas. Despite using a double primer spray paint, they chip so so easily.”
An easy and affordable way to make your plants stand out on your patio can be found with Actually Alli’s NYPON flower pot hack. With a little hot glue, paint, and an embroidery hoop, this flower pot was transformed from ordinary to a one-of-a-kind statement piece. Your plants deserve a chic home, too!
One of the easiest yet incredibly impactful IKEA hacks on this list comes from Catherine of DIY Without Fear. Wanting to take her patio from drab to Pinterest-worthy fab, Catherine installed IKEA curtains that are held back by burlap rope. She says “the way they gently blow in the breeze is so relaxing” — which has us running to the nearest store to install them as well. How beautiful this must be all summer long.
This outdoor side table was cleverly made by Garrison Street Design Studio for under $10. Stylish and ridiculously affordable, the MARIUS table (available in black or white) was perfectly paired with a cement stepping stone (under $2 each) that they already had on hand. Such a resourceful way to DIY!
Another amazing APPLARO IKEA patio set hack, this time by Kim of XO My Home. As a way to expand her family’s living space, Kim transformed the red stain APPLARO into a flat black paint, giving it a modern and chic look that perfectly blends with the aesthetic of her home. It’s fresh and inviting — and affordable!
Karen of Decorhint says this IKEA hack isn’t even a hack — and although we agree with her we couldn’t help but add it to its list just for its easy and ingenious execution. If you’re a plant lover, this is a must-have “hack” for you and your patio. Karen took IKEA’s TORDH shelving unit and transformed it into a potting table. In addition, it acts great as a privacy wall for her patio.
