Most of my nights lately have been spent awake rocking a teething baby back to sleep — over and over again. He sleeps best on me, of course, which means I do not sleep a wink. I can’t remember those sleepless nights like this with my first, even though I know they exist. Do we intentionally block those memories out so that we have more babies? Probably. Nonetheless, I can’t wait to see that happy, silly smile with those two bottom teeth fully poking through.

With spending so much time in his nursery I can’t help but think about the things I would love to add or change. One thing I really want is plants. Actually, just a small one that I can put on the dresser. Any time I see photos of potted plants on the floor of the nursery I can’t help but think “How?”Β Maybe other babies are not as (what we like to call it) “handsy” as mine, but those leaves would be absolutely nonexistent.
We have one large house plant that originally lived on the sun-riddled floor of our living room. But once my firstborn was able to crawl we immediately had to move it up high. Like I said, handsy. These days it resides much lower on a built-in bench in my kitchen because my toddler loves to water it. But now with my secondborn on the move, there’s a good chance it could go right back up high in the upcoming months.
Best Plants for Baby and Nursery
There are so many great health benefits to having indoor plants, which is why I would love to add a small one to his room. With allergy season upon us, I would love to add one to my toddler’s room too — he struggles hard with seasonal allergies. And since indoor plants can help relieve allergies, I think a plant would be ideal. They’re also really beneficial for the cold and flu months, which we are thankfully in the midst of leaving. Those stuffy noses really could have used an extra boost of moisture in the air. Next year I will do better!
The best plants for your baby are nontoxic, of course. Like I said if we had a potted plant on the floor those leaves would be nonexistent and would probably (absolutely definitely) end up in a mouth. Nontoxic is the way to go. Here are a few great nontoxic options you could add to your nursery.
Parlor Palmsare considered one of the best air purifiers. These plants humidify the air, remove toxins, and are safe for pets too. Plus, they have quite a show-stopping tropical look about them if you want to make a statement in your little one’s room.
The Money Tree is a great air purifier and acts as an anti-radiator minimizing radiation from things like our phones and computers. Plus it is said to bring about prosperity and wealth, which is a great way for your little one to start off!
The Kentia Palm is an excellent air purifier that adds humidity to the air, making breathing much easier on your little one. Easy to care for, which means you don’t have to feel too guilty about a little neglect when teething days and nights take over all your mental capacity.
Snake Plants are incredible oxygen producers, more so than other plants because they continue to produce oxygen at night. Snake Plants help filter your indoor air, combat allergens, and are incredibly easy to care for.
Like the others on this list, the Rubber Plant is a super low-maintenance plant that helps purify the air and is great at removing pollutants.
