Scrunchies are back in style, and the 90’s child in me is all for it! And the totally lazy hair-stylist in me is also super happy. Whoever brought back this scrunchie hairstyles trend, thank you! My fragile hair has been damaged enough over the years from thin hair ties ripping and breaking my hair. Although they are a more subtle wrist accessory. Does anyone else remember wearing a scrunchie both in your hair and on your wrist in the ’90s? My absolute favorite one was a pastel tye-dye I think my mom bought me from Claires when I was about six-years-old (thanks, mom). Also, who else looooved rummaging through Claires at the mall with their bestie?
Back then I typically always wore my hair half up with the scrunchie high on my head. Hey, it was the look back then! Today, I opt for a more sophisticated look. Yes, scrunchies can be considered sophisticated. OK, let’s just go with “mature“. Below I have shared with you some of my favorite scrunchie hairstyles for today. These ideas are right on-trend and show you exactly how you can once again rock the scrunchie look, without looking like you’re six-years-old.

Low Ponytail
Could a hairstyle get any easier? Pull back hair, wrap around scrunchie, done. But to help create a way more polished look, try creating tousled waves in your hair with your favorite hair wand. Finish it off by spritzing your favorite sea-salt spray.
Low Braided Ponytail
Keep the low ponytail look, but amp up the style factor by adding a braid or two (or three). Need a little more braided hair inspiration? Check out my favorite summer braided hairstyles to see how you can incorporate your scrunchie with a braid that fits your hairstyle.
High Ponytail
Such a perfect summer style that keeps your neck cool while you look cool (because of the scrunchie). Like the low pony above, add some sweet tousled waves to your hair for an extra pretty effect!
Messy Low Bun
A totally effortlessly and stylish look. Pull a few strands of hair out in front and lightly curl them to perfectly frame your face and make your hairstyle look like it took you longer than 30 seconds to put together (but that’s all it’ll take).
High Bun
I’ve said it once (or a lot) before and I will say it again — my go-to hairstyle! The effortless high bun. Take a look at Twist Me Pretty for some awesome scrunchie hairstyle tutorials.
Braided Low Bun
So chic and stylish, the braided low bun is a must-learn for serious summer stylin’. If you have thin hair like myself, your bun can be pretty small once you’ve finished the braids. The scrunchie helps make your bun look much fuller.
Half-Up with Waves
Any look with tousled hair is a favorite of mine, but this super easy half-updo needs to be in your rotation of everyday hairstyles. Learn how to create the perfect half-updo!
Half-Up Hair with a Twist
Half up with a twist! So pretty. so stylish, so easy! Again with the tousled locks, adding the scrunchie really completes this hairstyle, am I right?
Messy Half-Up Hair
Just like the messy low bun, this style is so effortlessly chic! If you haven’t snagged yourself a velvet hair scrunchie like this, what are you waiting for?
Half-Up Hair Braided
Hello, gorgeous! This already ridiculously styled hair is made perfect with a bow scrunchie. P.S. if you can recreate this kind of braid in your hair I am so envious of your skills!

As a former 80’s girl (not a child, though lol!), I love scrunchies!! And……I actually still have one from the 80’s that I’ve been sporting lately (they just don’t make things like they used too!).
Enjoyed the hair-do ideas too!
