The official first day of summer is only ten days away, yet it certainly has felt like summer around here already. Although my kids happily play in their inflatable mini lemon pool (you know the one, it’s just so cute!) there is a pool that always floats into my mind each year. The DIY stock tank pool.
The stock tank gives off an effortless cool essence. Backyards are transformed into a chic oasis with just a little paint, an umbrella, and of course a pool floatie — preferably the swan or flamingo.

What is a DIY stock tank pool?
In a nutshell, stock tanks are oversized metal buckets. Over the years they’ve become one seriously trendy summer DIY pool project (just look below for some chic beauties!).
Stock tank pools are an inexpensive way to add a small pool to your backyard, in lieu of your typical plastic or blown-up pool option like we currently reside in. You can get a stock tank in multiple sizes, so whether you have a large or small backyard, they are the perfect budget-friendly choice.
If you have a small backyard and have always dreamed of having a pool, a stock tank pool could be the answer for you!
The beauty of a DIY stock tank is that you can easily paint or decorate it to fit your personal style and backyard aesthetic. Plus, should your style change the stock tank pool can easily be repainted (just as one of our creators below has done over and over again).
Plus, you’ll be oh-so trendy and add major style to your backyard space. And don’t worry, this is a doable DIY project for anyone, even if you don’t consider yourself a handy, DIY person.
P.S. Don’t forget to snag yourself a swan floaty for your new stock tank. Because as you will see below, if you don’t own a swan floaty is your stock tank even ready for summer?
We are starting off our list of DIY stock tank pools with one serious “peachy paradise” as creator Rachel Serene of Serene & Co. puts it. The incredibly unique aspect of her stock tank pool is that she nixed the paint and purchased bamboo fencing to line the outside of her pool with. The peach umbrella helps to set the vibe for this undeniably chic backyard.
This striped dream comes from At Home With Ashley who gives an incredibly thorough breakdown of the entire painting process as well as a supplies list for you to easily go off of. Although you can choose the color of your liking, we can’t help but swoon over this champagne pink peral shade.
A tropical dream! This hand-painted stock tank pool is reinvented each year by Hey Wanderer with a new coat of paint. Make sure to check out their stock tank pool-specific Instagram at Stock Tank Pool Authority to get all the best inspiration for painting your pool.
A metallic champagne pool with a hot pink flamingo floaty — it’s truly what summer dreams are made of. This beauty was created by Lolly Jane who shares their must-have pro tips to paint your own stock tank pool this summer.
Pink stripes and puppy dogs? This is an absolute dream of a stock pool! We absolutely adore how Hunter Premo chose to paint her pool, and the swan and donut floaties are a major sweet addition. Hunter answers your most asked questions like, can you move your stock tank to a new house? Her answer: YES! Stock tank pools are easy to set up, maintain, and move with you.
Brittany of Delight in the Desert refers to her DIY stock tank as a little slice of paradise and we couldn’t agree more with her! Grabbing inspiration from our first creator Serene & Co., Brittany used bamboo around her pool as well, perfectly fashioning her own chic oasis.
