Today on the blog I am sharing with you how I start each day with a happy and energizing morning routine! Having a morning routine can transform your mood and the way carry yourself throughout the entire day. The way you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. Why not start your morning off in an upbeat and productive manner?
Are you a night owl and despise having to rise early? Maybe you struggle in the mornings to get up and moving, and once you’re up and out of bed you feel grumpy and unmotivated.
You are not alone.
Mornings can be difficult. But continuing to have sluggish and unmotivated mornings does your mind and body no good. It is important for your overall well-being to create a morning routine that gives you the most opportunity to have the best possible day.
Although my morning routine is not always perfect and there are days that I don’t fully commit to all things below, I have created a morning routine that works best for me. I hope my routine can help motivate you to have a more happy and energizing morning!

Don’t Hit the Snooze Button
If you are anything like me you are already rolling your eyes at my first suggestion. I know what you are thinking: Don’t snooze longer to feel more energized? YES! Give this crazy idea a chance!
I am notorious for hitting the snooze button over and over and over again until I only have ten minutes or less to get ready. I’m a serial snoozer; it’s been a major problem. But the days I don’t hit snooze and I wake up and get out of bed at the sound of my first alarm are seriously my best days.
By not hitting the snooze button I am able to give myself ample time to get ready and do a proper morning routine that leads to me feeling the most energized all day. Because I get up right away I have time to do all the things next on my list.
TIP: Try an alarm clock that simulates a sunset, especially if you have to wake up before the sun. This was great for me when I used to get up at 4 a.m. each day for work!
Hydrate
It’s no secret that water does wonders for our bodies. You’ve heard it countless times how important it is to drink the proper amount of water each day and to drink water at optimal times throughout the day. One of those times: as soon as you wake up!
But, why?
There are so many awesome benefits to drinking water first thing in the morning:
- Hydrates your skins
- Flushes out your system of toxins
- Speeds up the cell renewal process
- Increases blood flow and oxygen to your brain
- Alleviates allergy and cold symptoms
- Aids in weight loss by making metabolism more effective
- Stops and heals headaches
TIP: Leave water next to your bed at night to have first thing in the morning. Use an insulated bottle to keep it fresh and cold.
Shower
OK, so you may be a shower-at-night kind of person; there is nothing wrong with that. Shower at night or shower in the morning – there really is no right or wrong answer, it’s whatever you prefer! Good news, there are benefits to both! I like to shower in the morning because it helps wake me up and get me going at an energized pace.
Showering in the morning helps alleviate muscle and headache tension, decrease stress, and increase blood circulation. Morning showers also help balance your skin’s natural oils, which (if you’re oily like me!) is a huge beauty benefit. Morning showers cleanse nighttime oil buildup on your skin, hair, and scalp. Shower in the morning for an energized and clean feeling!
Listen to Music
I love listening to music while I get ready in the morning (and in the car, and all day at work). Uplifting music instantly makes you happy, and what better way to start your morning than by being happy?
Music can help relieve stress and anxiety, which in turn improves your overall health. Everyone prefers different types of music, but by listening to the music you enjoy you can feel inspired and motivated for the day. Listening to music can truly make anyone a morning person.
Here is what’s on my morning playlist:
- On Top of The World by IMAGINE DRAGONS
- Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by WHAM!
- St. Croix by FAMILY OF THE YEAR
- Keep on Loving You by REO SPEEDWAGON
- The Sound of Sunshine by MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD
- How Sweet It Is by JAMES TAYLOR
- Feel It Still by PORTUGAL, THE MAN
- Uptown Girl by BILLY JOEL
- Young Blood by THE NAKED AND FAMOUS
- Daydream Believer by THE MONKEES
Eat Breakfast
The most important meal of the day? Absolutely! Don’t run on empty; eating a healthy breakfast gives you the energy your body needs and provides many health benefits. To enjoy all the benefits of eating breakfast it is important to stick to nutrient-packed foods.
Examples: oatmeal, eggs, yogurt, fruit, cereal with fiber, and coffee (but not JUST coffee).
Avoid foods that are high in sugars, like donuts and sweet cereals. Also, eating breakfast can help you maintain a healthy weight. By eating breakfast, you are actually telling your body that you will be eating again (snacks, lunch, dinner) and to burn calories. By not eating breakfast your body thinks it needs to conserve calories.
Eat up and have a great morning!
