Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had an enjoyable Thanksgiving, and hopefully, you got to use a Thanksgiving letterboard or two as fun decor for you and your guests! So now that one holiday is over, is everyone getting into the holly jolly spirit? Typically the Friday after Thanksgiving we put up our Christmas tree, but this year it went up two weeks early. No shame, it’s 2020 — anything goes this year.
Again, since anything goes, today I want to share with you a few of my favorite alternative Christmas tree ideas for those of you who are not keen on the traditional holiday look. I absolutely love all of these ideas and am actually thinking of doing one in another room of my house. Our living room has our traditional Christmas tree, but I am thinking the kitchen, playroom, or even my son’s bedroom would be a great place for an alternative Christmas tree.
Most of the ideas below are ideal for small spaces, so even if you love the traditional Christmas tree look but simply don’t have space for it, these alternative Christmas tree ideas can still give your home the warm, holly jolly vibe without taking away your limited space. Enjoy!
Wall Shelves
Incorporate one or a few small wall shelves to help build your own out of the box version of a Christmas tree. Stack presents or holiday decor among the shelves to create a design that’s special to you and your loved ones. And don’t forget to add a charming star atop it all!
Fairy Lights
Want the beautiful glow of a tree but don’t have to space for it? Fairy lights may be your solution! Fairy lights alone can create a beautiful image of a tree, but add in a few details like flowers or photos to give it a more personalized and eye-catching look.
Substitute Tree
Literally, an alternative tree, opt for a tree that fits your home’s aesthetic like a funky and fun cactus! Or create a chic and modern vibe by pairing few branches with a large vase.
Paper Silhouette
Use cards, photos, or any other paper goods to create a stunning paper silhouette. This can be a super cute and creative way to display your Christmas cards, either from this current year or from years before. Add an extra fun touch by using wasabi tape to hold everything up!
Branch Out
Keep the outdoorsy vibe alive inside by using branches to create the silhouette of a tree. Hang ornaments and lights from the branches to create a rustic Christmas dream!
Wooden Cutout
For all you woodworking DIY-ers out there, this could be the one for you! Create a wooden cutout of a tree and hang, string, or stack your decor against it.
Kid-Friendly
The perfect Christmas tree alternatives for kids playroom or bedroom. Pom-pom felt garland or a solid felt tree, both are safe and fun ways to spread holiday cheer to your little one’s space!
