Hello loves, and happy Friday! One thing I always remember about Friday’s when I was much younger was watching T.G.I.F with my brothers. If you didn’t grow up in the 90s with T.G.I.F, you have no idea the pressure of getting in front of the TV before the shows began or grabbing a snack during a commercial break and not missing a second! The joy and convince of the DVR option today. I live for it. Avoid commercials, pause TV to take as long as I want to make a snack? Sold.
The 90s were such a fun time for me. Although I was young, I lived vicariously through my older brothers and their friends. I just loved all their girlfriends and how trendy they always were! I always tried to emulate their fashion to the best of my ability in a way that was age appropriate for myself. And oh, how I loved the Spice Girls and their fashion. Again, I copied their fashion in a way my mom would allow. (thanks, mom, for making me remain a kid). Is it just me, or do kids not dress like kids anymore? Anyways…
My mind is always still in the 90s. Such a happy, carefree time of my life. Wearing hand-me-downs from my brothers, because they were oversized and cool. Rocking a pair of jellies in my crop top and overalls (that definitely had Micky Mouse embroidered on them). Some of the best (and worst) fashion trends emerged from the 90s. Today I want to share with you ways you can rock vintage 90s fashion for summer. Enjoy!
Denim Skirts
Every girl had a denim skirt in the 90s. Even I had a few in my wardrobe as a little girl! Good new for those who were in love with the look: denim skirts are making quite the comeback with today’s fashion! For your summer outfit, pair a denim skirt with a graphic tee or crop top. Add a pair of fishnet tights to complete your vintage 90s girl outfit!
Slip Dress and T-Shirt
Anyone else instantly think of Cher talking her way out of gym class in Clueless? A slip dress and t-shirt outfit is an easy way to channel your inner 90’s girl during the warm summer months. Add a choker and pair of sneakers for head to toe 90s vibe.
Overalls and Crop Top
Overalls have made a major comeback lately in the world of fashion, and the 90’s child in me is all for it! A crop top and overalls was a true staple to my summer wardrobe. This all black outfit is seriously so chic and perfect for incorporating 90s fashion into today’s style! Wear with one strap down for a serious 90s flashback.
Plaid or Flannel with Shorts
My favorite 90’s inspired look for the summer — a simple plaid or flannel tied around the waist. I always wore my older brothers hand-me-down plaids, so mine was always way oversized! But oversized way totally a 90’s vibe. Wear shorts or short overalls to complete this summer look.
Dress and Sneakers
Can you think of anything more easy-going and comfortable while on the go in summer? Slip on your favorite summer dress (opt for a fun floral print) and a comfortable pair of sneakers and you are totally rocking a 90’s vibe!
Plaid Skirt
I know I said it before, but once again I am getting major Cher vibes from Clueless! But we seriously cannot forget Corey from Empire Records! These two ladies are certainly 90s plaid skirt goals. Pair a plaid skirt with a graphic tee or crop top and channel your inner 90s girl movie star!
Doc Martins
The first thing I think of whenever I see a pair of Doc Martins is the 90s! Since then, Doc Martins have continued to stay afloat in the fashion world, and they can be pretty easy to spot today. Shorts, skirt, dress, overalls — whatever outfit you plan to wear this summer add a pair of Doc Martins to complete the 90’s vibe.
Choker Necklace
And finally, to get that head-to-toe 90s fashion vibe, add a choker necklace whenever possible! Any outfit above can be given an extra dose of the 90s by adding this must-have accessory.
