Hello, loves! Today I am excited to share with you a few of my all-time favorite tips to help grow your hair longer and faster. I’ve had long hair for more than half of my life. I’ve learned what makes my hair stagger in growth and what makes it excel in growth. Since I was about 16-years-old I’ve pretty much always had long hair. Having long hair has always been like a safety blanket for me. It makes me feel prettier, more put together, more confident…
So, when I’ve gone scissor-happy (or, really, allowed hairdressers to do so) in the past and wrongly decided I would be happier with shorter hair, it was important to me to find ways to not only grow my hair back out but do so fast. Because there have definitely been times where I’ve struggled to grow my hair and other times where my hair has grown quite fast. I’ve looked over all those times of “short hair” heartbreak, and have learned exactly what I need to do to help my hair grow.
The tips below have been essential for me to maintain my healthy hair and encourage growth. I hope my tips help you grow your hair longer and faster, too! Enjoy!
I Take My Vitamins
I take my vitamins every single day. I truly notice a difference in not just my hair but my energy and skin condition when I take my daily vitamins. I am not saying if you take a hair vitamin you will instantly have Rapunzel-like hair. But if your hair is not growing there is always a good chance your body is not getting enough nutrients through your diet that will assist in hair growth. I’m no doctor, this is just the information I have been told and the results I see by taking my vitamins. So, if you’d feel better talking to a doctor before taking hair vitamins, do so!
Shampoo Less
I have oily hair. Like, really oily hair that I have forever used clarifying shampoos and dry shampoos on (probably far too much). It literally gets oily the same day I shampoo it, so not washing it every single day has never been something I was confident doing. But finding “lazy girl hairstyles” aka I didn’t wash my hair hairstyles, has been a total game-changer. I also make sure to only apply shampoo to my scalp and allow the shampoo to run down my long strands when I wash away the shampoo. And don’t forget the conditioner! It prevents split ends, helping your hair grow longer, faster.
Microfiber Hair Towel
After washing my hair I no longer use a regular towel on my hair. The constant pulling and twisting, heavy tension, and inevitable breakage that comes with using a regular towel on your hair can be so damaging and halting to your hair growth. Instead, I opt for a microfiber hair towel, specifically designed to be gentle on your hair. They are lightweight and stay put, so you can wrap your hair and wash your face, put on makeup, walk your dog (totally guilty of this one), or whatever you need to do without worrying about the towel pulling and falling off your head.
Use Less Heat
The easiest thing you can do for the health of your hair — use less heating tools! The healthier your hair is, the longer it will grow. It’s really that simple. The summer is the best time for this, although I certainly let my hair air dry in the warmth of my home in the middle of winter. In summer — I sit outside for some Vitamin D and instant hair drying. It’s the way I create my tousled hair waves too. When you do use heating tools, make sure to use a heat protectant to help protect your beautiful strands.
Gentle Brushing
I have thin, delicate hair that easily breaks. Not ideal when you want to grow your hair out. Finding the WetBrush was the holy grail for my hair. I recommend this brush to literally EVERYONE. It’s all I use on my son’s delicate hair as well. It is designed to be gentle on your hair — even on wet hair (hence the name). I’m sure you’ve been told all your life not to brush wet hair, but with the Wet Brush, you certainly can. But remember to always do so as gently as possible to prevent unnecessary breakage. I’m not saying you won’t have any breakage with this brush but you will have significantly less.
Better Hair Ties + Styles
Did you catch my post on the best hair scrunchie styles? I am so happy that scrunchies are back in style. My thin hair has been damaged enough through my teens and early twenties playing recreational sports with my hair high up in thin elastic ties. Now, I wear my hair in a low ponytail with a soft scrunchie that leaves no damage behind. Scrunchie for the win! They seriously are way kinder and gentler on your hair. Swap out your elastic hair ties (are you currently wearing one on your wrist?) for a soft scrunchie! Read my next tip to see how else a scrunchie can help!
DIY Hair Mask
You know I love DIY, so a DIY hair mask is perfect for me and can be perfect for you, too! My favorite DIY hair mask is coconut oil. I use organic, unrefined coconut oil. I take 1-2 teaspoons and warm small amounts of it at a time in my hands (you can also slightly warm it in the microwave if needed). I apply it only to the ends, as you would with conditioner in the shower. From there I pull all of it up in a high bun with a soft scrunchie and go to bed. In the morning, I shampoo and condition my hair like I normally would and have the softest hair ever! If you don’t want to leave the coconut oil hair mask on all night, find a time at home where you can leave it on for 2-3 hours.
Thanks for stopping by! I hope these tips can help you achieve the gorgeous Rapunzel-like hair you are dreaming of!
